MOMus-Museum Alex Mylona

On the fringe of the Athens Archaeological Park, MOMus-Museum Alex Mylona is housed in an impressive eclecticism building. In 2004 Alex Mylona founded the Alex Mylona Museum of Contemporary Art. From 2004 until 2007 the Museum has been operated by the Alex Mylona Foundation of Contemporary Art, it was then under the auspices of the Macedonian Museum of Contemporary Art (2007-2018). Since 2018 is being operated by MOMus, as one of its five museums.

The Museum hosts almost all of the sculptress's work, while organizing contemporary art exhibitions, educational programs, performances, happenings, lectures and speech. In its space there is a permanent exhibition of Alex Mylonas’ selected works: from the anthropocentric compositions she created in the 1950s, and her abstract iron sculptures presented at the 1960 Venice Biennale, to the Architectural Propositions (1976) and her latter marble sculptures. In addition to her sculptures, the Museum's collection includes paintings, drawings, collages and the archive of Alex Mylona. In parallel, a part of the artist’s atelier is presented.

The presentation of the Art Athina award winning artist will be presented in MOMus-Museum Alex Mylona, in spring 2023, fulfilling one Mylonas’ primary goals for the museum, to host and highlight news visual artists.
