Can poetry inspire comics artists? Can references of love in poetry be translated into images? The exhibition under the title/verse “Let every river envy our mouths” presented at the MOMus-Experimental Center for Arts (Warehouse B1, Thessaloniki port area), from 29 June to 03 September 2023, with the collaboration of the Thessaloniki Comic Convention hosts the answers to the above questions as expressed by 26 artists, comic creators, illustrators and graphic designers.The exhibition presents works submitted to the previous open call for interest, in order to render artistically on paper romantic moments from Greek and world literature and poetry. This combination, original for this particular community of creators, aimed to create a new field of erotic iconography. Through references to texts by Anne Carson, E.E. Cummings, Ocean Vuong, Sarah Cane, Marios Chatziprokopiou, but also others chosen by the creators of the comics themselves, the exhibition presents a new erotic iconography, beyond stereotypes and conventional approaches to the erotic element.Text intertwines with image, desire becomes guilt-free, playful style and sexuality come to the fore, the body meets desire tenderly or provocatively. The wide spectrum of the comic unfolds in different ways and highlights the multiplicity of artistic expression.In the context of MOMus’ educational policy, the MOMus-Experimental Center for the Arts collaborated with AKTO Art &amp; Design College and especially with the art director Panagiotis Metallinos, in order to train the students in as real professional conditions as possible. OPEN CALLPhotography workshop “A SEA BEYOND”A five-day workshop on photography with Stratos Kalafatis and Lia NalbantidouAPPLICATIONS’ DEADLINE: April 7, 2023 The MOMus-Experimental Center for the Arts is promoting an open call to young photographers who would like to participate in the photography workshop entitled "A Sea Beyond", led by the internationally acclaimed photographers Stratos Kalafatis and Lia Nalbantidou.The workshop will take place for five days, between April 25-29, 2023 at the port of Thessaloniki and the MOMus-ECT venue. This workshop is produced in the frame of the SEA CHANGE.Participation is free of charge, after applying for it and being selected.GENERAL INFOThe program “A Sea Change” is a project co-funded by the European Union and is focused on promoting creative innovation around the Blue Economy practices through interdisciplinary and intermedia arts, as well as artistic and curatorial research. Culminating in Barcelona with an exhibition in 2024, the project will develop between Croatia, Cyprus, Greece and Spain, ​​and is led by Kontejner (HR) in collaboration with MOMus (GR), NeMe (CY), and Quo Artis (ES) as partner organisations. During 2022-2024, partner and collaborating organisations will get involved with different communities to catalyse a positive impact on the environment, the marine ecosystem and the well-being of coastal populations, with special emphasis on Blue Economy urgencies both at the local and European level.The project will unfold across various sectors, including environmental sciences, health, tourism, and design, and will involve a series of exhibitions in many countries.The activities of A Sea Change (workshops, artistic residencies, public programmes, documentary screenings, and educational activities, <a href="https://a-sea-change.net/">https://a-sea-change.net/</a>) will promote and catalyse changes in local environments and will produce new works of art and intersectional collaborations to build a more sustainable, diverse and inclusive Mediterranean.THE PROJECT’S AND EVENTS’ OBJECTIVES:<ul><li>To bring new and sustainable cultural practices to coastal communities.</li><li>To educate and build capacities of involved cultural agents and local citizens.</li><li>To foster critical practices and innovations in coastal economies.</li></ul> THE PHOTOGRAPHERS [STUDIOTESSERA]Stratos Kalafatis was born in Kavala in 1966. He graduated from the Physical Education and Athletics department of the Aristotle University of Thessaloniki and then he attended photography classes at the Art Institute of Philadelphia, U.S.A. He lives in Thessaloniki and has created, along with Lia Nalbantidou, STUDIOTESSERA, a photography platform with educational, publishing and artistic activities. During the last thirty years, he has been presenting his photographic works at private galleries, museums, festivals and artistic events throughout the world. The following works of his are available from Agra publications: Archetypal Images(1999), , Journal 1998-2002 (2004), Athos / The colours of faith (1st edition2014), (2nd edition 2018), Archipelago (2017). He is represented by the Bernier / Eliades gallery.Lia Nalbantidou is a freelance photographer - active artist (member of EETE) based in Thessaloniki. She has been teaching photography for the last 30 years. Her work (photographic works and photobooks) has been presented in numerous Greek and international exhibitions and contemporary art events. She is represented in private and public art collections and libraries. Lecture-Performance by Judith Raum “Anni and the Feline”, 2019/22MOMus-Experimental Center for the Arts(Warehouse Β1, Pier Α, Thessaloniki port)Friday, April 29, 2022, 19:00 In this lecture performance under the title “Anni and the Feline” which was first produced for a Bauhaus symposium at Yale School of Architecture in 2019 and now is re-staged at MOMus-Experimental Center for the Arts, Berlin-based artist Judith Raum deals with the textile workshop at the Bauhaus at the transition to National Socialism in Germany.Interweaving projected imagery, text and sculptural actions, “Anni and the Feline” addresses textile materials that have long been believed to be lost and were rediscovered by the artist: translucent lace nets for the window, delicate materials that despite their soft appearance did not remain untouched by the changing political circumstances in Germany around 1933. The lecture performance also addresses the opposite professional positioning of individual Bauhaus designers, such as Otti Berger and Lilly Reich, during the Third Reich. The event is coproduced by Goethe-Institut Thessaloniki, as part of the on show exhibition “The Event as a Thread” at MOMus-Experimental Center for the Arts.The lecture will be held in English.Reserve your seat on tel. Opening: Thursday 25 April, 2024, 20:00 The English word rekt, an abbreviation and neologism of the word wrecked, is used among the online gaming community to represent defeat, failure. The same word is used by the visual artist Vasilis Alexandrou with its political implications, as a sarcastic, ironic pun in the title of his exhibition "Politically rekt", which will be presented at the MOMus-Experimental Center for the Arts in Thessaloniki (Warehouse B1, Pier A', port) from 25 April to 12 May 2024. Based on the practice-based doctoral thesis that the visual artist has started since March 2020 at the Department of Audio &amp; Visual Arts of the Ionian University entitled "Political art in the digital age" and with the support of the Hellenic Foundation for Research and Innovation (HFRI.), the exhibition captures the artist's personal process since then, which was largely accomplished during periods of confinement and loneliness. The sometimes positive but mostly negative signs recorded during that period – solidarity, empowerment and resilience in the first case, the staggering prevalence of digital media, the mass surveillance, the psychological manipulation operations, the political inaction and the widespread complacency of citizens, among others, in the second – are reflected in the thematic axis of the artist's works. Alexandrou "plays" with words, either in the title of his exhibition, or in the installations he presents and in which he requests/demands the attention and action on behalf of the visitor. Fame virus, Safe pace, Iconstasi, Clap me hard and social.gr are just some of these titles, which provoke and comment on the creeping socio-economic crisis of the time. Curated by: Eirini Papakonstantinou, Art Historian-Museologist  Artist’s Talk / Guided tour by Vasilis Alexandrou (in Greek language)Thursday 09 May, 2024, 18:00 With the entrance ticket in the exhibition.  Curriculum VitaeVasilis Alexandrou was born in 1990 in Thessaloniki Greece, where he lives and works. He graduated with honors from the School of Fine Arts of Aristotle University of Thessaloniki in 2014. In 2019 he completed a Master Degree on Interactive Installation and New Media in art, at the School of Audio and Visual Arts, Ionian University. Since March 2020 he has been a PhD candidate at the School of Audio and Visual Arts, Ionian University pursuing a practice-based PhD research titled "Political Art in Digital Age" for which he has been awarded a scholarship by H.F.R.I., Hellenic Foundation for Research &amp; Innovation. Vasilis has created two permanent works for public space and has displayed his work in seven solo exhibitions and in more than 70 group shows. In 2020, he was awarded the ARTWORKS at the Stavros Niarchos Foundation Artist Fellowship Program. Open Discussion: Thursday 11 April 2024 |18:00 The visual artist Elli Chrysidou is “starring” in the new production of the MOMus-Experimental Center for the Arts in Warehouse B1, in the port of Thessaloniki, with the provocative title “Art in social politics brings change”, from 11 until 18 April 2024.  This installation/performance by the acclaimed and politically activist artist Elli Chrysidou consists of real images and drawings, video and audio, as well as diary pages, in a dialogue in which politics and art are invited to answer the Marcel Proust Questionnaire. This is a record and presentation of a lived experience of politics and art from 2010 to 2019 – a period Chrysidou was the Deputy Mayor of Culture at the Municipality of Thessaloniki – aiming to reaffirm the fundamental and crucial role of art in shaping politics and policy, in an action that seeks to empower the community. The visual artist addresses this question and engages in a direct conversation with the city's recent past.  Part of the exhibition is also the video-independent production under the title “A Commentary on Marcel Proust’s Questionnaire” (2024), based on a concept by Elli Chrysidou; she and Yiannis Boutaris answer Proust’s questions. Elli Chrysidou. Αrt in social politics brings change

Opening: Thursday 21 March 2024 | 19:00 How do young artists shape their visual language, especially at a time when stimuli are so many and everything seems to have been said, and what is the role of the academic experience in this process? The experimental workshop-exhibition under the title “A place on their own” taking place at the MOMus-Experimental Center for the Arts (Warehouse b1, Pier A’, Thessaloniki port) from 21 March until 07 April 2024, is an excellent example of the research dimension surrounding the production of contemporary artistic work.  The students of the 5th Painting Studio of the School of Visual and Applied Arts, Faculty of Fine Arts AUTh under the direction of Lampros Psyrrakis, during the laboratory course of Rania Emmanouilidou, were invited to experiment, to escape from the medium they work with, to leave the field in which they feel safe and to seek new unexplored areas.  The workshop brought them into contact with the process of setting up an overall concept, while preparing, coexisting in a group exhibition in a museum context; at the same time, the resulting works touch on personal, introspective issues, the human-nature-culture relationship, and the post-climate change period.  *Opening performance “the weaver” by Anna Timotheou with the participation of Evi Savvidou.  * Efstathia Savvidou and Daphne Vlasidou invite the exhibition audience to participate in their common installation under the title «Cladosporium, Penicillium, and Aspergillus or The Last One to Turn Off the Lights”. *Students’ portfolios created under the supervision of the artists-teachers Maria Vozali and Aliki Martzopoulou will be also presented during the exhibition.  Participant students: Anna Botou, Kalliopi Fessara, Sarkis Hambaryan, Moschoula Katsipi, Elisavet Moraiti, Rena Nikolaidou, Elsa Papagiannopoulou, Alexandra Papavasileiou, Maria-Aggeliki Peroglou, Georgia Rachmani, Evelyn Rapi, Andriana Rizou, Maria-Anna Saouridou, Katerina Schoina, Malamatenia Soulioti, Georgia Sozou, Evangelia Theologou, Anna Timotheou Daphne Vlasidou and Efstathia Savvidou Curated by: Lydia Chatziiakovou, Curator – ArtBOX experimental agency Parallel events 28 March – 07 April 2024 Sophia Touboura, 88, sound and visual installation-interactive performance  On the occasion of the official calendar entry into Spring season, the artist chooses the realization of 88, an installation inspired by a date that bears elements connected to the paradoxically self-destructive action of man. March 28 in leap years, like this year 2024, is the 88th day of the year. 88 describes the atomic number of the radioactive metal radium discovered by Marie Curie, an element best known for the disastrous consequences of its excessive use. At the same time, in Morse Code, the number 88 is used to convey an informal cordial greeting and more specifically, it encodes the phrase "hugs and kisses". Installation 88 consists of electronic sound, digital video and printed collages and reproduces reprocessed images of symbols of tenderness, which are alternated and mixed with images of nuclear mushrooms from real databases.  The project concludes with the interactive performance (28 March 2024, 16:00-20:00) which is carried out by the artist herself and within the limits of the installation space highlighting the project as a means of processing the dipole of tender love and absolute cruelty, but also promoting the idea of the symbolic catalysis of the latter through the dominance of the first. Curated by: Domna Gounari, Curator MOMus-Experimental Center for the Arts  Thursday 28 March 2024, 18:00Guided tour at the experimental workshop-exhibition “A place on their own” by the participant students.
