ARTWORK DESCRIPTION
The installation of variable dimensions "Self-Portrait with Closed Eyes" consists of a series of tiles bearing Braille writing, which feature descriptions of Van Gogh's paintings, written by Van Gogh himself in letters to his brother Theo. These descriptions, which have been rewritten using the writing and reading system for the blind, are aimed both at general visitors to the exhibitions and, more specifically, at people with visual impairments, thus creating two ways of experiencing the work: on the one hand, only blind visitors and those who know Braille can read the texts, while on the other hand, the rest can appreciate the aesthetic values of the installation in the context of contemporary art. The project was carried out in Thessaloniki with the help of the School for the Blind “Helios”. Translated with DeepL.com (free version)
