ARTWORK DESCRIPTION

Carla Accardi's "Nodo del segretto" is one of the last works created by the artist, a year before her death. In this period, having the wisdom and maturity of the years, at the same time the artistic maturity, she creates abstract compositions with colours, bright and luminous, full of light and hope that urge the viewer to look at the future with optimism.

CREATOR

Carla Accardi was born in 1924 in Trapani, Sicily. She studied at the Academies of Fine Arts in Palermo and Florence and then moved to Rome in 1946. In 1947, together with Pietro Consagra, Ugo Attardi, Antonio Sanfilippo, Giulio Turcato, Piero Dorazio, Achille Perilli and Mino Guerrini, he founded the art group "Forma", which aimed to promote an abstract Marxist art different from social realism. Having come into contact with the "Movimento Arte Concreta" movement, Accardi visited Paris, where she became acquainted with the work of Alberto Magnelli and Hans Hartung which turned her away from painting (1952-1953). She returned with her "Integrazione" series, large-scale works in white and black, and would reintroduce colour into her compositions when she joined the Continuità group. During the 1950s and 1970s, her use of transparent sicofoil on rolls, which she painted replacing the canvas, led her to a new artistic quest. She held a large series of solo exhibitions starting in 1950. In 1988 she represented Italy at the Venice Biennale, and her participation in group exhibitions and international events worldwide is numerous. She died in 2014 in Rome.
